Sunday, October 15, 11:00  a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
The Great Chicago House Hunt
Hosted by the Rogers Park / West Ridge Historical Society
7363 North Greenview,  Chicago

Help the Historical Society identify its pictures! “Over the years, we’ve accumulated many photographs of homes, commercial buildings and other places in the neighborhood with limited information as to their location, date or subject matter. We’re trying to fill in the details for as many as we can, and you can help.

Join Rob Case, our Ace Photo Archivist, for a Great Chicago House Hunt session, where he’ll show you how to use modern digital resources like Google Streetview, old phone books and other internet resources to search for clues in photos. No experience necessary, but it helps if you’re comfortable with using Google for searches and have other basic internet skills. Bring your laptop, smartphone or tablet, put on your detective hat, and join us for a fun afternoon as a history detective in training. Note: if you don’t have a smart device, our office has a limited number of computers that will also be available for use.” [quoted copy from the Historical Society’s announcement]

Free. Limited to 6 participants at a time. Please preregister at info@rpwrhs.org OR (773) 764-4078

  1. Hi, Paco! Your neighbor Jess Mahoney here. I am wondering if you know when the next CAPS 2412 meeting will be. I found an old post of yours on EveryBlock naming “Avy” as the faciliator, but I couldn’t use the email you provided. Thanks for starting this site! While I don’t always share your viewpoint, I deeply appreciate your civic-minded attitude. I hope you will continue this work, as you said, for all of our kids.

    • Hi, Jess Thanks for the info on the CAPS meeting. I added to the Events page. That address has changed and I’ll be checking with CAPS on Tuesday to get current info. I appreciate the reminder.

And thank you for the kind words. I’ve not been as active on 50thWardFollies as before because I’ve started a community group, POWR (People of West Ridge) NFP, and have been focusing on all the necessary paperwork and administrative details to get the group launched and begin a membership drive. Research on a couple of neighborhood issues that I want to report on for 50thWardFollies has taken more time than anticipated, so I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to visit and to provide important info for the site. I learn more from people who disagree than those who think I’m right, so please feel free to comment anytime!
