The Chicago Sun-Times carried an excellent and informative article yesterday about the new Strategic Deployment Center coming to the 24th Police District, which includes West Ridge.
Reporter Fran Spielman outlines the Center’s objectives and briefly discusses its success in other police districts in Chicago. The 24th District will get high-definition surveillance cameras as part of the crime-fighting strategy. However, the cameras will not include the SpotShotter technology used in neighborhoods with hundreds of shootings. Cameras using SpotShotter respond to the sound of gunfire and zero in on that area.
According to Alderman Joe Moore of the 49th Ward, more information about the 24th District’s new capabilities will be available later today.
